I am extremely proud of my year 4 class. They have settled in to our routines, are becoming responsible and independent and are working very hard.
Keep it up!
Children got to take part in a number of experiments. We were testing for conductors and insulators. We learnt more from our visitor who told us more about habitats and food chains. Some children were even brave enough to hold a frog and a mouse. Well done to those children.
Year 4 have been studying 'The Romans' for our Explore to learn topic. In history we have ordered dates chronologically on a timeline. We have found out about Roman soldiers, Julius Ceasar, Hadrian's wall and the Colosseum. In geography we have located Italy and Rome on a map. In numeracy we have learnt Roman numerals. In art and DT we have researched, designed and made our very own shields.
On world book day we spent time reading books with year 3 and year 1. All children brought their favourite book into school. We looked at the titles and the authors. A lot of children had books written by the same author. They read with great expression and enthusiasm. Well done to Year 4 who were brilliant at reading to the younger children and asking lots of fun questions. Great day!
Year 4 had a very informative Talk about poppies. They were taught how to make poppies and Year 6 joined our workshop. Children and staff alike experienced what life would have been like during the war years.
What a fantastic week we had during Music Week. We were able to try out different instruments - guitars, brass, percussion ... but also each year gave a performance for the rest of the school. Year 4's performance of "Happy" was brilliant!
Year 4 were give the opportunity to walk around a Victorian courtyard and found out about the jobs young people did. They got to dress up and do some detective work. In the afternoon we went to St.Georges Hall were we went on a magical walk with scientists to find out the true meaning of Christmas.
Year 4 made chocolate rice crispy cakes and added some marshmallows and sprinkles on the top.
Year 4 are enjoying reading books in our new ‘Comfy Corner’. As a class we have enjoyed reading different stories written by Roald Dahl. We have enjoyed ‘The Twits’ and have nearly finished ‘The BFG’.
In history we have been learning about Queen Victoria. The children used ipads to carry out their own research, shared their knowledge with a small group and then presented their findings in front of the class.
