Welcome to Year 5

Class Teacher: Mrs Catt

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Hegarty

Key Information

WOW! What a Start!

Year 5 have had a wonderful few weeks settling in to our new routines. We have been very busy and Mrs Catt and Mrs Hegarty have been very impressed with all of the children so far. Well done Year 5 and keep it up!

Year 5 will receive homework every Friday and it should be returned by the following Friday. Each week they will receive homework in:

  • Mathematics
  • Writing
  • Spelling

It is expected that the children also read at home to an adult at least 3 times a week alongside some independent reading. Also, children need to continue to  practise all the times tables and related number facts.

PE Kit

During the autumn term, our class will have PE every Thursday afternoon. The children have been advised to leave their PE kit in school as much as possible in case this day needs to change.

Meet Year 5's Play leaders

Year 5 children have received training to help them encourage our younger children to play well at lunch times. They have been thinking hard at ways in which they can include maths learning into their games.

Science: Earth, Space and Beyond

Year 5 have enjoyed learning fascinating facts about Earth and Space. We have enjoyed using marbling inks to create the different colours of the planets. We enjoyed learning about the solar system. We have used our maths knowledge of scaling to help us use play-doh to create the size and shapes of the planets. We enjoyed having a visitor from John Moores University.

Year 5 have completed two weeks of Bikeability. We have learnt how to check that our bikes are safe to ride on the road and we have improved our balancing skills, so that we can signal safely. We were all awarded our level 2 certificates. Well done Year 5!
