How to apply
If you submit a claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction and you are in receipt of one of the qualifying incomes listed above, we will automatically assess your entitlement to Free School Meals (FSM). This is completed at the point that we assess your entitlement to Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction. There is no need for you to apply separately for FSM.
If you don’t have a new claim to submit, or if you haven’t recently submitted a claim, you can apply by completing the application form below.
If you are in receipt of Universal Credit and have an annual net earned income not exceeding £7,400, you should complete the application form below.
If you have recently applied for Universal Credit due to a change in your circumstances brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, there will possibly be a delay in confirming your eligibility for free school meals while your application is being processed by the Department for Work and Pensions.
Note: If you are over 18 and still attend school, you can claim for free school meals if you receive any of the first three allowances listed above.
