It has been brought to our attention that many of the children are currently using Instagram and have their own accounts. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that Instagram has a minimum age of 13. In order to safeguard your children, if you are allowing them to use Instagram, we would recommend that you do the following:
- Set up your own Instagram account and FOLLOW YOUR CHILD; this will enable you to see all images and comments that are being posted.
- QUESTION them over who they have allowed to follow them or who they follow (at such a young age it is not advisable for them to have followers or follow people who they don’t know).
- REGULARLY CHECK your child’s device, including any direct messages or group chats that they are part of. (These can be accessed via an icon in the top right hand corner).
- Ensure that their account is set to PRIVATE so that only people they have allowed to follow them can see what they are posting.
Further information and e-safety guidance for parents can be found in the parents section of our website.
Many thanks for your continued support in this safeguarding matter.
