We have been making maps of Knowsley Safari park. We worked very carefully to include all the features. Can you spot Dylan's cafe?
What talented girls we have in Year 2!
Year 2 had the most amazing day at Knowsley Safari Park learning about African habitats. We enjoyed the seal and birds of prey shows and getting up close to the wonderful giraffes.
Year 2 had a lovely time at St Mary's - thank you.
To celebrate 30 years of Jill Murphy's fantastic book, 'Five minutes' Peace' Year 2 and some of our super adults in school dressed up as Mrs Large and imagined what we would do if we had five minutes by ourselves.
We made a big book of our thoughts. Thank you Mrs D for making a wonderful bath for us to sit in!
Today we had a visit from Mr Plater a dinosaur enthusiast who has his own Dinosaur museum in Hull. He brought us some amazing artefacts to look at including a real dinosaur egg! We touched the egg and listened very carefully to it and thankfully it didn't hatch after all of these years!
Look at the pictures to see what fun we had.
Congratulations Jemima on passing your drama exam with a Merit. We are very proud of you.
Congratulations Daisy and Frankie our Children of Excellence for the theme of Forgiveness.
We love reading in Year 2 and what a wonderful day we had dressing up and reading with our Year 6 friends. Lots of the children in Year 2 have completed the reading challenge that has been taking place this term. Well done, Year 2!
Year 2 had lots of fun last week during Science week. They became 'Forensic scientists', investigating and solving the crime and learning about DNA and sources of evidence at a crime scene. They explored craters on the moon and investigated which ball would make the largest crater and even flew rockets!! What fantastic scientists!

Congratulations to William and Amelia our Children of Excellence for Trust.
Year 2 were the envy of the school on Thursday afternoon, when the delightful smell of baking bread drifted from our classroom.
We made bread as part of our Science topic about materials to show the changes caused by heating the ingredients. We played with the dough to investigate forces, changing the shape of the dough by twisting, rolling, stretching and squashing.
The verdict on our bread was: delicious, scrumptious, yummy and tasty!
What an exciting playtime the children had on Friday eating their freshly baked bread!
Thank you Jemima for bringing in your book about St Paul's Cathedral. What super art work too!!
On Tuesday (26.1.2016) we watched an amazing performance about the brain and how it works. The children took home a book mark detailing 9 follow up films the company had produced.
This week we have introduced reading blankets to the KS1 playground at play times to keep the children cosy while reading. They were a great hit!! Super cosy reading!
A big thank you to Barry from Altru Drama for a fantastic 'Play in a Day' last Thursday (211.1.16) A big well done to Year 2 who were FANTASTIC, confident performers!
They made me so proud recalling lots of facts about the Fire of London.
We loved our session at the Fun Maths Roadshow on Thursday. Thank you Liverpool University Mathematics Society Outreach team.
We learned lots of things but most importantly to quote Luke Lebrocq, 'Maths is great!'
Thank you to all our super Year 2 children for a fantastic first term and to all our families for the wonderful Christmas gifts.
Have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in January.

Having lots of fun wearing our Christmas jumpers, while raising money for our friend Joel.
A sneak preview of our costumes...don't we look fantastic?
At Book bugs we are currently reading 'The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me' by Roald Dahl. This week we pretended to be the giraffe, monkey and pelican and we advertised our window cleaning business. It was great fun!
Wonderful display for Black History Week - clothing and culture.
Last Wednesday (4.11.15) Year 2 had a wonderful day being Young Authors and learning how to make 'E' books using the 'Book Creator' APP with Alan Ellis from Knowsley's City Learning Centre. We included audio introductions using 'tellegami' and added pictures, text and voice overs. During the afternoon some children also experimented with 'green screen' technology. Our theme was The Great Fire of London. I was very proud of the children and their hard work and Mr Ellis, commented "What a lovely class with such a strong sense of independence."

Mrs Dukalska and I would like to say how pleased we are with the way the children have settled into Year 2. Already they are working very hard and are producing some super work.
In Year 2 we love to keep you up to date with what the children have been doing in class. So we have attached a document which gives a little taster of what we've been doing so far along with information about book bugs, homework, spellings and PE.
