Class Teacher: Mrs S. Catt
Teaching Assistant: Mrs K. Dukalska
Homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Friday. Homework will include: maths, writing, spelling and reading. Throughout the year, there will also be homework set for talk week preparation and learning of key facts for non-core subjects using our wonderful 'Knowledge Planners'.
In Year 3, the children will begin the 'Accelerated Reader' programme. Every day in school, they will read for half an hour independently and have the opportunity to quiz once they have finished a book. At home, children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading Records will be checked every Friday. Any children who have read 5 or more times that week will go into Mr Smith's golden box.
Children will be given a spelling notice sheet every other week to share with parents the common exception words and the spelling rule we are learning about. Please help your child to learn the common exception words and work together to research many words that fit the spelling pattern. Every Friday, children will be tested on the common exception words sent home along with some surprise ones to ensure the children are retaining the spellings. Additionally, they will be given a test on unseen words that follow our spelling rule.
Please encourage your child to learn their times tables. It would be very beneficial for them to play on Times Table Rockstars a couple of times each week. The Times Tables we are focussing on are the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11.
Year 3 will be swimming this half term every Friday. Please make sure they bring in their full swimming kit each week including: costume, school swimming cap, goggles and a towel.
Class Trip - Liverpool Museum and the Anglican Cathedral
WOW! What an incredible day. Everyone in Year 3 should be very proud of themselves. They were very respectful when walking around the museum and the cathedral. They showed off all of their key historical facts and contributed brilliantly to our workshop. A fantastic way to end our learning about the history of Liverpool.
World Faith Day
On World Faith Day we enjoyed our visitor, Jeremy. He taught us about Jewish faith and symbols.
Year 3 have used numicon, counters and bar modelling to help us understand the concept of multiplication. They enjoyed drawing pictorial representations of a calculation.
Year 3 have really enjoyed their instructions unit. We began by reading and exploring instructions and picking out our success criteria. Then we followed instructions. We even got the opportunity to follow a recipe and method for making chocolate cookies. We used the IPads to record ourselves giving verbal instructions. Finally we wrote our own set of instructions.
Times Table Rockstars
We are hooked with Times Table Rockstars! A few times a week we complete the 3 minute challenge. During this time it is full concentration to beat our personal best.
We have really enjoyed using our Knowledge Planners to help us remember key facts. We have enjoyed quizzing our partners on key events and dates. We have been fact detectives while finding and highlighting key facts in our writing. We are very proud of all of the children and the key facts they are retaining.
PE is timetable or a Thursday. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in every Thursday. At times, PE days may have to change, so it is a good idea for your child to have their PE kit in all week and take it home of a weekend.
After a fantastic Autumn Term Year 3 had a lovely treat. They have worked very hard and been spotted by many members of staff for doing the right thing. They received the total of 20 stars and thoroughly enjoyed their christmas treat.
Making a Christingle
Year 3 really enjoyed making a christingle today. We are very excited for our christingle service.
In science we have looked at the different food groups and eating a balanced diet. The children enjoyed looking at food labels and discovering their content.
Year 3 Trip to Liverpool World Museum
Year 3 had a memorable trip to Liverpool World Museum travelling by train. We enjoyed a fantastic practical workshop on 'Stone Age' and were able to investigate and explore many artefacts. It was a great treat being able to buy a treat from the shop. Take a look at our wonderful video.
Year 3 enjoyed listening and learning from their peers during 'Talk Week'. Children spoke clearly and confidently about their learning of 'Stone Age' and 'Where Our Food Comes From'. We even got to eat some delicious fruit while learning about the food miles it had taken to travel from the producer to the us as the consumer.
Year 3 enjoys exploring the different artefacts and discussing what they may be and the information they suggest about the 'Stone Age'.
