Intent of our Music Curriculum

In line with the broader aims of the RAISE curriculum, we carefully shape our music curriculum to ensure SUCCESS FOR EVERYONE; it is fully inclusive, relevant for the pupils we teach and develops children’s curiosity about music. The ambition is to INSPIRE children to develop a deep-rooted appreciation for music, varying in styles and types of music. We will provide children with opportunities to reflect on a wide variety of music and identify, analyse and critique through their listening and appraisal.

The aim is to RETAIN key knowledge, vocabulary, concepts and significant individuals within each year group, before building and expanding on these in more depth. The development of children’s understanding of the objectives will ensure APPLICATION of knowledge and skills to continue their musical journey throughout their school lives with the hope that the opportunities and first-hand experiences provided in school will further their musical appreciation.
